ROGER PERKINS / SOSAKETE

“Pop Art...American Indian Style!”

Perkins' self-proclaimed “Powwow Pop Art,” puts a clever and distinctly Mohawk twist on the 1950's art movement, slyly “re-claiming American Indian imagery used in advertising, photography, internet, and media.”

A graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts (Santa Fe, NM), Perkins has expressive fluency in pit fired pottery as well as painting. In 1994, he initiated a heroic effort to restore prehistoric Mohawk pottery traditions. Credited with the almost single-handed revival of these ancient skills, today he shares this hard earned knowledge through workshops and demonstrations.
