by Stefan Bielinski Engeltie Van Woert was born in New Amsterdam in 1650. She was the daughter of New Netherland pioneers Rutger Janse and Tryntje Jans Van Woert. By the mid-1650s, they had settled upriver in Rensselaerswyck or Beverwyck. By the late 1660s, Engeltie had married Albany resident Melgert Abrahamse Van Deusen. By 1691, the marriage had produced at least eight children. Her household may have relocated to the countryside during the 1700s. Engeltie Van Woert Van Deusen died and was buried in the Albany churchyard in July 1728. Her husband survived until 1742. notes
