Johannes Vandenbergh

Johannes Vandenbergh was christened on March 1, 1696 in the Dutch church in New York. He was the son of regional residents Cornelis C. and Susanna Ouderkerk Vandenbergh.

October 1722, he was issued a warrant to reside in the Seneca country by the New York government.

In January 1726, he married Maria Van Ness at the Albany Dutch church. By 1751, eleven of his children had been christened in Albany where his wife was a pewholder.

Although probably in the Indian country on a seasonal basis, from about 1720 on, Johannes Vandenbergh was an Albany merchant and freeholder who lived in the first then third wards.

In 1732 and 1732, he was elected assistant alderman for the third ward.

The name of Johannes Vandenbergh has not been found in the Albany record after he was named co-executor of the will of his cousin Edward Blood in July 1746. He was listed as the father of the last child born to his wife in June 1751.
