Wilhelmus Van Deusen

by

The one-time Albany resident known mostly as "Wilhelmus Van Deusen" was born during the mid-eighteenth century. Perhaps he was the son of Albany residents Cornelis and Lea Ostrander Van Deusen who was christened at the Albany Dutch church in December 1758. Other same/similarly named contemporaries dictate more than ordinary caution in the assignment of qualitative information.

In 1779, the house and lot (but no personal property) of William Van Deusen (perhaps instead an NYC refugee) in the second ward was assessed substantially.

Perhaps he married one "Rachel Pieters" about 1780. If so, then four children were christened by them at the Albany Dutch church between 1782 and 1785 and three more are attributed to the parents afterwards until 1792.

Wilhelmus Van Deusen is said to have died in June 1830. His widow is said to have applied for a pension in August 1837.

With same-named contemporaries and so many unanswered questions and unresolved issues on the life of the subject we call Wilhelmus Van Deusen, we move on for now!

notes

the people of colonial Albany Sources: The life of Wilhelmus Van Deusen has no CAP biography number. This sketch is derived chiefly from family and community-based resources.

Driven by the old demolitions team adage "better to be cautious than wrong," we apologize for the seeming lack of commitment in this case!
