The Albany Common Council - 1686

This pen-and-ink drawing by historical artist Len Tantillo commemorates the first meeting of the Albany Common Council at the city hall on July 26, 1686. Seated around the table in the large meeting room are mayor Pieter Schuyler, recorder Dirck Wesselse, clerk Robert Livingston, treasurer Jan Janse Bleecker, sheriff Richard Pretty, aldermen Albert Ryckman and Johannes Wendell, and several assistants.

This drawing is part of a set made for an exhibition on the Albany city charter during the Albany Tricentennial in 1986. It is in the collection of the Colonial Albany Social History Project.
