Machtel Wyngaert Hilton

by

Machtel Wyngaert was born in June 1730. She was the daughter of Johannes and Maria Huysen Wyngaert. She grew up in the large family of a first ward cooper.

Her marriage to Albany native Petrus Hilton produced two sons who were christened in the Albany Dutch church in 1753 and 1754.

These Hiltons stayed near both of their families on Albany's Southside where Petrus followed the wood trades as well.

However, Machtel Wyngaert Hilton would live for less than twenty-five years as "the wife of Petrus Hilton" was buried from the church in September 1754 - a few days before the baptism of her second child. That child was buried from the church on October 2. By 1756, Hilton had re-married and continued to father more children until 1770.
