Catharina Waters Yates
by
Stefan Bielinski

Catharina Waters probably was born during the mid-1740s. She was the daughter of schoolmaster and vintner John Waters and his wife, Sara Winne Waters.

In July 1766, she married shoemaker's son Christopher A. Yates in the Albany Dutch church. By 1778, seven children, including twins, had been christened in Albany.

This Yates family lived just north of the city line in Watervliet. They also owned business real property in the third ward. Their home on the river road was a North End landmark.

Catharina Waters Yates died in March 1791 and was buried from the Dutch church. Her husband lived on until 1809.
