Anna Wendell Douw

by

Anna Wendell was born in January 1732. She was a younger daughter in the large family of Johannes E. and Anna Kip Wendell. She grew up in a merchant's home in the second ward. Her father died in 1739 - leaving the seven-year-old to be raised by her widowed mother who probably moved them in with Anna's older brother.

In November 1757, Anna Wendell married Volkert A. Douw at the Albany Dutch church. Their son was christened the following September.

These Douws set up their home in Albany's third ward as Volkert A. was beginning to emerge as a merchant and city official.

However, Anna Wendell Douw was dead by June 1762 when her husband re-married. This Albany native had lived for less than thirty years.
