Catharina Van Vechten Wendell

by

Catharina Van Vechten was born in July 1720. She was the daughter of Albany residents Reuben and Geertruy Witbeck Van Vechten. Her father died in 1733 and her mother lived a decade longer.

She married Albany native Harmanus H. Wendell in March 1742. By 1756, the marriage had produced nine children who were christened at the Albany Dutch church.

These Wendells lived in a "good house" in the third ward where Harmanus was a well-known businessman, member of the city council, and county justice of the peace.

Catharina Van Vechten Wendell may have died in 1756 following the birth of her last child. Perhaps her husband re-married in 1762.
