Myndert Van Schaick

Myndert Van Schaick was born in September 1782. He was a younger son of Colonel Goose and Maria Ten Broeck Van Schaick. He grew up in a moderate sized family in the Market Street home of a Patriot officer and businessman.

In 1788, he was among the heirs named in the will filed by his father. Bequeathed some personal items including a servant, also he eventually would receive a share of his father's estate.

Upon coming of age, Myndert found fame and fortune beyond his native Albany. By 1820, he had removed to New York City and had married (1815) Elizabeth Howe, daughter of a prominent Manhattan family. The marriage produced a number of children. Successful in business, Myndert Van Schaick also was elected to both houses of the State Legislature. His careers have been profiled in a number of sources beyond the Albany setting.

Albany native Myndert Van Schaick died in New York in 1865 at the age of 83. The obituary in the New York Times summarized his long life.
