Maria Van Santvoort Wendell
by
Stefan Bielinski

Maria Van Santvoort probably was born about 1720 on Staten Island. She was the daughter of Dominie Cornelis Van Santvoort and his wife, Staten Island native Anna Staats. Her father moved their family to Schenectady where he had accepted a call to the ministry in 1740.

In July 1741, she married attorney Johannes E. Wendell at her father's church. They had five children - the last of whom was baptized in Albany in 1751 and lived until 1837.

These Wendells were living in Albany September 1751 when Johannes died at age thirty-eight leaving a wife and a young family. The widow Maria Van Santvoort Wendell was named on the census of Albany householders taken in 1756.

She died sometime afterwards!
