Bata Van Slichtenhorst may have been the only daughter of Albany residents Gerrit and Alida Lansing Van Slichtenhorst. Her grandfather had been director of the colony of Rensselaerswyck.

By the early 1680s, she had married frontier trader and landholder Jan Clute, Jr. The marriage produced at least nine children who were baptized at the Albany Dutch church where both parents were members.

In 1684, Clute inherited extensive properties from the estate of his uncle. They lived on the Clute farm at Canastigione. In 1692, Jan Clute, Jr. was a prisoner in Canada and Bata appeared before the Albany court to secure payment of a debt owed her husband.

Bata Van Slichtenhorst Clute died after 1704.
