Johannes Myndertse Van Iveren

Johannes Myndertse was born in October 1711. He was the son of Albany natives Frederic Myndertse and Sara De Wandelaer Van Iveren. He grew up at his father's smithy in the third ward.

In May 1740, he married Maria Ostrander at the Albany Dutch church. By 1756, eight children had been christened in Albany.

This Myndertse family lived in the first ward where Johannes Myndertse also practiced the blacksmith's trade. In 1742, his name was on a list of first ward freeholders. In 1743 he was appointed firemaster. Early in that year, he was paid by the city for ironwork.

In August 1750, he was called "Johannes Myndertsen, jun." and a blacksmith when he witnessed a neighbor's will. In 1756, he was identified as a smith and his house was described on the census.

Johannes Myndertse Van Iveren filed a will in September 1761. It named his wife and three surviving children.The will passed probate in January 1764.
