Engeltie Vandenbergh Visscher

Engeltie Vandenbergh was born in 1730 , the daughter of Rensselaerswyck farmer Matthias and Catharina Van Deusen Vandenbergh. Her father died in 1745 leaving the widow to raise their large family.

In 1751, middle daughter Engeltie married Albany brewer/businessman Bastian T. Visscher. They set up housekeeping near his father's home on Pearl Street where their seven children were born between 1751 and 1771. By the outbreak of the War for Independence, these Visschers were spending more time at their country home located in a part of Rensselaerswyck that was beginning to be known as Watervliet.

Engeltie Vandenbergh Visscher died in November 1789 in her sixtieth year. She was buried from the Albany Dutch Church where she had been a pewholder for many years.
