Cornelia Vandenbergh Van Alstyne

by

Spelled and referred to variously, Cornelia Vandenbergh was christened in October 1687. She was the daughter of Rensselaerswyck residents Cornelis G. and Cornelia Wynants Vanderpoel Vandenbergh. However, subsequent resources noted that she had been born in Albany.

In November 1705, she married one "Marten Jansse Van Aalstede" at the Albany Dutch church. At that time, the partners were living in Rensselaerswyck but Cornelia had been born in Albany. By 1724, eight children reflecting the names of the grandparents were christened at the Albany church where she was a long-time member.

In March 1714, Cornelia was named in the will filed by her father (at that time a farmer in the East Manor) and identified as the wife of "Martin van Alstyn."

As a number of same-named men are at risk during her lifetime, we hesitate to assign qualitative information to the married life of this Albany native.

Past diminishing returns, we move on from the life of Cornelia Vandenbergh Van Alstyne.
