Elsie Van Buren Van Rensselaer

by

Elsie Van Buren was born in November 1759. Perhaps, she was the only child born to the marriage of Cornelis and Maicke Hun Van Buren. She grew up in Kinderhook where he father was a freeholder and prominent citizen. Perhaps her father was an officer in the same Revolutionary army regiment as her future husband.

In November 1780, she married Revolutionary army officer Nicholas Van Rensselaer at the Albany Dutch church. By 1785, two children had been christened in Albany. Later, at least two more children were baptized at the Greenbush Reformed church.

After living for a time in Albany, these Van Rensselaers established their permanent home on family property in Greenbush.

Elsie Van Buren Van Rensselaer died in September 1844 at the age of eighty-five. She was buried in Greenbush. Her husband survived three years longer.
