Egbertie Van Buren Abeel

by

Egbertie (Abigail) Van Buren was christened in April 1738. She was the eldest daughter of William and Teuntje Vandenbergh Van Buren. After eight children, her father died in August 1752. Her family lived near kin in the East Manor near (but probably on) Papsknee Island where her parents and some siblings were buried.

In November 1757, young "Abigael" married the slightly older Albany native Jacobus Abeel at the Albany Dutch church. By 1779, eight children had been christened in Albany where she was a pewholder and occasional baptism sponsor. At the time of her marriage she was identified as a single woman of "Papsknee."

These Abeels began to raise their family in Albany but probably left the city by the end of the 1770s. At this point, we seek information on her later life and passing.
