by
Stefan Bielinski

Geertruy Visscher was born during the early 1660s. She was the daughter of Albany pioneers Harmen and Hester Dircks Visscher.

Her husband was Cornelis Van Schelluyne. By 1698, their six children had been christened at the Albany Dutch church where both parents were lifelong members.

This Van Schelluyne family lived well and prominently in Albany's second ward. Cornelis was a trader and tannery owner who held several parcels of real estate. They were Albany mainstays for fifty years.

Geertruy lost her husband in 1728. For several years, she maintained their Albany home. Geertuy Visscher Van Schelluyne died and was buried in April 1734.
