Mary Trotter Wendell
by
Stefan Bielinski

Mary Trotter probably was the daughter of John and Anna Hogan Trotter.

In 1771, she married newcomer John W. Wendell. The marriage produced several children who were baptized in Albany churches.

These Wendells lived on Court Street where John sold and made hats and later opened a hat factory. He also ran a boarding house before his death in 1802. In 1810, Mary was the head of their first ward household. In 1813 and '14, the "widow of John W. Wendell" was listed in the city directories at 3 Union Street.

Mary Trotter Wendell died on March 14, 1831 at age seventy-seven. She was buried from the house of James Lamoreux at 59 Hamilton Street.
