by

According to traditional sources, Elizabeth Stevens was born in Germany about 1624.

In May 1648, she married Claes Jacobse Groesbeck in Amsterdam, Holland. Their first child was born in February 1649. By 1662, the marriage had produced at least seven children - six of whom were still living in 1707. Elizabeth was a member of the Albany Dutch church.

Following their marriage, The emigrated to New Netherland. By 1660, they were living in Beverwyck where Claes Jacobse sought to compete in the fur trade.

For several decades these Groesbecks were Albany mainstays. Their home on Pearl Street was an Albany landmark.

In 1707, octogenarian Elizabeth was named executor of her husband's estate. Elizabeth Stevens Groesbeck died sometime thereafter.
