Gerrit J. Marselis

by

Gerrit J. Marselis was born in April 1732. He was the son of Johannes and Anna Beekman Marselis. His father was an Albany businessman who died in 1746. His widowed mother lived on as the head of their first ward household for several decades longer. He was known as "Gerrit Joh. Marselis."

In 1753, "Gerrit Johs: Marselis" was appointed constable for the first ward.

His will mentioned a son but no wife and that his sister, Maria, deserved special consideration "for her extraordinary trouble." The will left his home to his mother and then to his son after her death. However, widow Marselis managed to outlive Gerrit. It also mentioned real estate in Schenectady.

Gerrit J. Marselis filed a will in February 1766. It passed probate in May. He had lived just thirty two years.
