Sara Lansing Bleecker

by

Sara Lansing was born in June 1763. She was the daughter of Gerrit and his second wife, Jannetje Waters Lansing. She grew up in a large, combined family in a gunsmith's home in the third ward. Her prominent, younger brothers were John Lansing Jr. and Abraham G. Lansing. Her father died in 1782 when she was nineteen.

In December 1787, Sara married Barent Bleecker at the Albany Dutch church. Perhaps their only child was born in 1793.

After residing briefly in the home of Sara's widowed mother, these Bleeckers lived in a landmark house on North Market Street where Barent was a prominent businessman and community leader.

Sara Lansing Bleecker died in October 1831 and was buried from the church. Her husband survived until 1840.
