Maria Hansen Schuyler

Maria Hansen was born in 1697. She was the third child in the large family of Hendrick and Debora Van Dam Hansen. The following year, her father was appointed mayor of Albany.

In 1723, she was left an indemnity in a provision of her father's will. In 1725, she married thirty-three-year-old Albany baker and landholder David A. Schuyler. The older marriage partners produced several children. But only one offspring lived to maturity.

Like both sets of parents, these Schuylers were Market Street mainstays. She was the sister of mid-century mayor Hans Hansen.

Maria Hansen Schuyler died sometime after 1767 when she and David Schuyler witnessed a land transaction.

notes

the people of colonial Albany Sources: The life of Maria Hansen Schuyler is CAP biography number 4957. This profile is derived chiefly from family and community-based resources. Oddly, her marriage to Schuyler was not recorded in the church register until August 17, 1761!
