Rebecca Fonda Hooghkerk

Rebecca Fonda was born in February or March 1714. She was the daughter of Isaac D. and Alida Lansing Fonda. She grew up as a middle child in a large family in businessman's home in the third ward. She was named for her father's mother.

In August 1734, she married brickmaker's son Lucas Hooghkerk at the Albany Dutch church. By 1750, nine children had been christened in Albany.

These Hooghkerks settled in the first ward where Lucas worked at the family brickyard.

However Rebecca's marriage was cut short by her death following the birth of her last child in January 1750. Rebecca Fonda, the wife of Lucas Hooghkerk, was buried in the churchyard in November 1750. She had lived but thirty-six years. Her husband survived for many years afterwards.
