Alida Fonda Visscher
by
Stefan Bielinski

Alida Fonda was born in August 1740. She was the daughter of Albany residents Hendrick and Anna Van Vechten Fonda. Her mother died before Alida turned four and her father re-married a few years later.

In October 1762, Alida wed Albany native Gerrit T. Visscher. By 1768, that marriage produced three children who were christened at the Albany Dutch church where she was a pewholder.

These Visschers lived in Albany's third ward where Gerrit was a carpenter and building contractor.

However, her family was much smaller than most Albany households as Alida Fonda Visscher was dead by 1771 when Gerrit T. Visscher re-married.
