Gerritje Egberts/Teunisse Hanse

by

In 1685, "Gerritje," the wife of Andries Hanse (perhaps Janse and aka Scherp), was named along with six other living siblings as heirs in the joint will filed by her parents, Rensselaerswyck residents Teunis T. Egbertse and Egbertie Egberts. Family-based resources tell us that Gerritje Egberts/Teunisse Hanse was born about 1658.

About 1683, she is said to have married Andries Hanse. At that time she (Gerritje Andriesz) was identified along with her husband as a member of the Albany Dutch church. By 1693, three of their children were christened at the church.

In 1689, Andries Hanse was living south of Albany - perhaps on Castle Island. Gerritje probably would have been accounted for within the household of her husband on the Rensselaerswyck census taken in 1697.

That woman was dead before 1699 when her brother Egbert Teunisse was named guardian of her children. Past diminishing returns, we move on for now from the life of Gerritje Egberts/Teunisse Hanse Scherp.
