Egbertie Egberts

by

Spelled and referenced variously, a woman known as Egbertie Egberts was an inn and/or tavern keeper in Beverwyck during the 1650s. She seems to have lived in Albany for some years afterward. We seek to ascertain her origins and trace her path to Albany.

At this point, a first task would be to connect that female pioneer with the individual further profiled below.

At this point, we have established an "Egbertie" as the wife of New Netherland pioneer and Albany patriarch Teunis Teunise Egbertsen. Their union produced several children who became Albany residents.

In August 1685, Egbertie filed a joint will with her husband. It named all of their children. No probate information has been encountered.

We seek defining information on the later life and passing of the family matriarch known as "Egbertie Egberts."

the people of colonial Albany Sources: The life of Egbertie Egberts has no CAP biography number. This sketch is derived chiefly from family and community-based resources.

Identity: At this point, the will document is the most (and perhaps only) solid primary source for this sketch. Other information employed is speculative.
