Jeremiah Driscoll

by

Spelled and referenced variously, one-time Albany resident Jeremiah Driscoll probably was born during the 1750s. We seek defining information on his origins and path to Albany.

Similarly named individuals served in the military units of several American states during the War for Independence. Perhaps he was the veteran enrolled on a pension list in Massachusetts in 1818.

After the war (during the 1790s) several same-named individuals became naturalized Americans.

His wife was named Mary. In November 1789, their son John was christened at St. Peter's Episcopal church.

In 1790, the household of "Jeremiah Driskile" with a man and a woman and three boys was configured on the Albany census of the second ward. However, the name does not appear on a city assessment roll taken in 1788.

In 1796, he was among those trustees involved in the incorporation of St. Mary's Catholic Church. However, his name does not appear on a testimonial from the "principal members of the church in 1799.

In August 1797, his name appeared on a list of freeholders in the second ward. At that time, he was identified as a "gentleman."

In 1800, the surname did not appear on the census of the city of Albany. It appears that the Driscoll family had left Albany by that time.

Past diminishing returns and missing important biographical information, we move on for now from the life of one-time Albany resident Jeremiah Driscoll
