Catharina Cuyler Van Schaick

by

Catharina Cuyler was born in June 1725. She was the daughter of Hendrick and Margarita Van Deusen Cuyler. She grew up in a prominent trader's home on Pearl Street.

In September 1751, she married a somewhat older Albany native named Jacob Van Schaick at the Dutch church. By 1767, four children had been christened in Albany.

This Van Schaick family made their home in the first and then the third wards where Jacob was a merchant and city officer. In 1761, Catharina was named as an heir in the will filed by her father.

Catharina Cuyler Van Schaick did not grow old along with her husband. She was dead by the late 1770s. Jacob Van Schaick re-married and died late in 1787 or early 1788 as a different wife was named in his will.
