Michael Bassett

Michael Bassett was born in August 1728. He was the first child born to the marriage of Michael Bassett and Elizabeth Schermerhorn Bassett which took place only four months earlier. By 1750, eleven children had been christened by those Albany parents in the Albany Dutch church.

Young Michael's father was a gunsmith and tinkerer whose family lived in Albany's second ward.

However, all but one of their children died before reaching adulthood. This Michael Bassett most likely was dead by September 28, 1740 when his parents christened another son with the same name.
