Metie Beekman Vanderhoeven

by

Metie (Maria) Beekman was born about 1657. She is said to have been the daughter of New Netherland pioneers Martin and Susanna Beekman.

About 1677, she married Cornelis Vanderhoven. The marriage produced several children. Both parents were members of the Albany Dutch church.

This Vanderhoeven or Vanderhoof family made their home in Albany where Cornelis was a merchant and transporter.

Metie Beekman Vanderhoeven lost her husband in January 1689. She had been named executor and beneficiary of his estate in the will he filed in 1685. At that time, three of her children were still living.

She is said to have married "Jonas Bibau" of Flatbush in 1690. That marriage produced several more children. She may have died on Staten Island in 1716.
