John Baker probably was born between 1756 and 1774. We seek defining information on his origins and path to Albany.

In 1790, thirteen households (including a number in greater Albany County) in New York State listed John Baker as the principal resident.

In 1799, he was identified as the administrator of the estate of the recently deceased Charles Gordon of Albany.

In 1800, John Baker was identified as the head of a household in Albany's first ward. At that time, his family consisted on one male and one female between the ages of 26 and 45.
