Barret

by

The Barrets (also Barrett) of colonial Albany descended from Robert Barret who settled in the community during the 1690s.

His son, Thomas Barret, was a baker who raised an Albany family but did not live to see thirty. His widow continued the bakery and was a visible Albany householder until her death in 1760.

A third "Robert" Barret lived in Albany during the second half of the eighteenth century.

In 1790, only two (Thomas and Peter) Barret-named households remained in the city.

The first city directory in 1813 listed two Barret-named households.
