Susanna Wendell Wyngaert

by

Susanna Wendell was born during the 1670s. She was the daughter of Albany residents Johannes and Elsie Staats Wendell.

In 1691, she was among those named in the will filed by her wealthy and prominent father. Johannes Wendell died in 1692 and her mother re-married only a few years later.

In April 1694, she joined the Albany Dutch church. In April 1695, she married Johannes Luykasse Wyngaert on the same day as her mother's second marriage. Her new stepfather was twenty-seven - only a few years older than Susanna. By 1704, Susanna Wyngaert had four children christened in Albany.

This Wyngaert family lived in Albany's second ward where Johannes was a merchant and trader.

The name of Susanna Wendell Wyngaert was not found in community records following the baptism of her child in May 1704. Johannes Luykasse lived at least until 1715.
