Hendrick Williams

Hendrick Williams probably was born about 1730. He may have been the son of Cornelis and Maria Storm Williams. We have yet to connect him to the Albany family whose patriarch was innkeeper Thomas Williams - although that has not been ruled out.

In June 1753, he married Francisca (Cloet) Clute at the Albany Dutch church. Their children were christened there in 1754 and 1762. At least four additional babies were baptized in Schenectady. Other children may have been christened in other Hudson Valley churches.

In 1754, he was appointed constable for the second ward. In October 1759, he was chosen high constable. In 1760, he was chosen firemaster. Perhaps he was a member of one of the five Williams-named households appearing on a census of Albany households taken in 1756. In 1764, his name appeared on a petition signed by Albany merchants.

After that, the name of Hendrick Williams drops from Albany city rolls. Perhaps he was the "Hendrick Wilyems" whose name appeared on the Halfmoon assessment roll in 1766.
