Volkert Van Vechten

Volkert Van Vechten probabaly was born about 1680. He was the son of Rensselaerswyck residents Gerrit Teunise and his second wife, Margarita Douw Van Vechten.

In August 1702, he married Albany native Lydia Ten Broeck. By 1712, the marriage had produced five children who were christened at the Albany Dutch church where he was a lifelong member and church officer.

In 1714, he witnessed the will of a neighbor.

These Van Vechtens lived in greater Rensselaerswyck but had strong family and business ties to Albany. In 1715, Volkert was a member of a militia troop. In 1720, he was listed among the freeholders of Rensselaerswyck. In 1742, he was one of several Van Vechten freeholders who were residents of the Manor.

Volkert Van Vechten filed a will in July 1747. He was dead by April 1749 when it passed probate.
