Volkert Janse Van Hoesen

Volkert Janse Van Hoesen probably was born before 1660. He was the son of New Netherland pioneers Jan Franse and Volkie Van Noorstrant Van Hoesen.

His wife was Maria Bensing. The marriage produced at least two sons - one born in 1692.

In 1689, he was counted among the subscribers on an Albany-based assessment. At that time, he was identified as a farmer in Capt. Gerrit Teunisen's Company. In 1697, his household was configured on the Albany census - although it showed that Volckert was not living there at the time. Two years later, he signed an oath swearing allegiance to the king of England. In June of that year, the Albany common council declared that he did not possess the freedom of Albany.

The Albany assessment roll in 1702 valued his two houses in the first and third wards.

Volkert Janse Van Hoesen died in August 1725 and was buried in the Albany church.
