Jacob Abrahamse Van Deusen

Jacob Abrahamse may have been born in 1638. He was the son of New Amsterdam residents Abraham Pieterse and Tryntie Melchoir.

In September 1663, he married Catharina Van Eslant in New Amsterdam. By 1678, nine children had been christened in the Dutch churches of New York and Albany. He was a member of and contributor to the church in Albany.

He had owned property in Albany since the 1660s. In 1673, he purchased an Albany houselot from Gerrit Van Slichtenhorst. At that time, he was known as "Jacob Abrahamse Kuyper (Cooper). This Van Deusen family then settled permanently in Albany where he was identified as a householder in 1679. A decade later his second ward property was valued on an Albany subscription list.

Jacob Abrahamse Van Deusen was dead by September 1694 when his widow was conducting business before the Albany city council.
