Christina Vandenbergh Wendell

by

Christina Vandenbergh was born in June 1744. She was the daughter of Gerrit C. and Margarita Van Vechten Vandenbergh. She grew as a middle child in the large family of a third ward waggonner and councilman. However, her family may have moved into the countryside as Christina approached womanhood.

In April 1770, she married Albany native Harmanus A. Wendell at the Albany Dutch church. By 1773, the marriage had produced two children. These Wendells appear to have made their home in the first ward near the State Street landmark of her husband's father.

After little more than a decade of marriage, Christina Vandenbergh Wendell died in 1782. She had lived just thirty-eight years. In March 1785, her husband re-married, fathered more children, and lived until 1819.
