William Tyler

by

In 1756, the house of William Tyler was listed on a census of Albany householders made by the British army. Under occupation, the enumerator noted that he was a "hatter."

However, the same document listed the house of one "William Taylor" with the notation that he "sells liquor." Understanding that the wide variety of possible spellings of the surname(s) Taylor and Tyler creates difficult (and yes winding and twining) paths in the assignment of information, we move forward here saying that this sketch simply organizes information on "William Tyler" the "hatter" in mid-eighteenth century Albany. We refer to him as "William Tyler."

This bio represents a new high/low in speculativity - an admittedly ahistorical avenue of pursuit!

With mostly unanswered questions on the life of one-time Albany resident William Tyler we move on for now.
