William Taylor

by

In 1756, the house of William Taylor was listed on a census of Albany householders made by the British army. Under occupation, the enumerator noted that he "sells liquor."

However, the same document listed the house of "William Tyler" with the notation that he was a "hatter." Understanding that the wide variety of spellings of the surname(s) Taylor and Tyler creates difficult (and yes winding) paths in the assignment of information, we move forward here saying that this sketch organizes information on the WT who "sells liquor" in mid-eighteenth century Albany. We refer to him as "William Taylor."

This bio represents a new high/low in speculativity - an admittedly ahistorical avenue!

With mostly unanswered questions on the life of one-time Albany resident William Taylor we move on for now.
