Sarah Smith Sturges

by

According to her burial record, Sarah/Sally Smith was born about 1755. We seek information on her background and life before marriage.

In November 1777, she married Isaac Sturges at the Albany Dutch church. During the 1780s and 1790s, their children were christened at the Presbyterian church.

This Sturgis family lived on Fox Street. Isaac seems to have worked on the river and held a number of service positions in the city. In 1800, their second ward household included four young children.

Sarah Smith Sturges died in December 1807 and was buried in the Presbyterian plot. She had lived fifty two years. Her husband survived for some time afterwards and probably moved in with family members in the second ward.
