Geertruy Switts Roseboom
by
Stefan Bielinski

Geertruy Switts was born in January 1742. She was the daughter of Isaac and Maria Vrooman Switts. Her father was a prominent businessman and skipper.

In November 1762, she was left a house and lot and other property in the will of her uncle, Jacob Visscher.

In July 1765, Geertruy married thirty-year-old Albany businessman Myndert Roseboom at the Albany Dutch church where she was a pew holder. Her daughter was baptized in June 1766.

Initially, these Rosebooms lived in a comfortable house in Albany's first ward. After that, the name of Geertruy Switts Roseboom seems to be absent from Albany rolls. Her husband survived the American Revolution and lived at least into the 1780s.
