Gerrit Jo. Lansing, Jr.

This Gerrit Lansing was born during the 1680s or early 1690s. He probably was the son of Albany residents Jan Lansing and his second wife, Geertie Van Schaick Lansing. He was referred to as "Gerrit Jo." or "Gerrit Jr." to distinguish him from other Gerrit Lansings living in the region at that time. He grew up in a wealthy merchant's home in the second ward.

In October 1715, he married Elizabeth Bancker at the Albany Dutch church. By 1726, five children had been christened in Albany.

These Lansings raised their family in Albany's second ward from where Gerrit was chosen assistant alderman in 1720. In 1715, his name was included on the roster of an Albany militia company. In 1721, he purchased another lot in the second ward. In 1720, he was counted among Albany's freeholders.

Gerrit Jo. Lansing, Jr. may have passed on in January 1736. Or, he may have lived somewhat longer!
