Rebecca Hooghkerk Mc Chestney

Rebecca Hooghkerk was born in November 1776. She was the eldest daughter of Albany residents Johannes and Margarita Martin Hooghkerk. However, her father died in 1785. Rebecca probably spent the remainder of her youth in one of several first ward homes of Hoogkerk family members.

In August 1796, she married her next door neighbor, John H. Chestney, at the Albany Dutch church where their child was christened two years later. However, subsequent children were baptized at the Albany Presbyterian church.

These Mc Chestneys made their home on South Pearl Street near the Beaver Street home of her mother. In 1800, their houshold included a young woman in Rebecca's age group. By 1813, John H. Chestney had re-located to North Pearl Street where he practiced the carpenter's trade for a number of years.
