Maria Hooghkerk Heaton
by
Stefan Bielinski

Maria Hooghkerk was born in July 1698. She was a daughter in the large Albany family of Luycas and his second wife, the widow Judik Marselis Hooghkerk. She grew up in the first ward home of a mainline brickbaker.

In June 1730, she married itinerent artist John Heaton/Eyton. Their children were baptized at the Albany Dutch church in 1736 and 1738.

During the 1730s and early 40s, these Heatons lived in Albany. After 1742, they may have relocated to New Jersey where they joined the Reformed church in Bergen County.
