Sara Goewy Van Vechten

Family-based resources tell us that Sara Goewy was the daughter of New Netherland pioneer Salomon Abelse and the sister of Albany resident Jan Salomanse. Sara probably was born in Holland (christened in Amsterdam May 31, 1648), and emigrated to New Netherland with her parents.

In 1668, she was identified as the wife of Cornelis Teunise (Van Vechten). At that time, she was named to inherit a hundred guilders from her uncle in Holland.

Van Vechten was a Rensselaerswyck farmer and sometime Albany resident. The marriage produced at least two children. However, she may have been the first of his three wives!

Sara Goewy Van Vechten may have died about 1682. In any event, she was dead by 1689 when Van Vechten re-married.
