Jan Fonda

by

Jan Fonda was born about 1670. He was the son of New Netherland pioneers Douwe and Rebecca Conyn Fonda.

In December 1694, he married Maria Loockermans. By 1714, nine children had been christened at the Albany Dutch church where he was a member and frequent baptism sponsor.

In 1697, his budding household appeared on the Albany census. However, he soon moved to Rensselaerswyck. In 1715, he was listed on the roster of an Albany militia company. In 1720, the name of "Jno Funda" was included on a list of the freeholders of Rensselaerswyck.

Jan Fonda died in June 1740 and was buried in the church cemetery.
