Jacob Egmont

Jacob Egmont was born in December 1685. He was the son of Rensselaerswyck residents Jacob Claese and Maria Egmont. His baptism record for December 27 noted that he was born after his father's death.

In 1715, Jacob's name appeared on the roster of an Albany militia company.

In October 1716, Jacob would have been past thirty when he married the somewhat younger Albany native Anna Lansing in the Albany Dutch church. By 1732, nine children had been christened in Albany.

In 1723, he was appointed city bellman. He was re-appointed in 1726 and 1727. Whether he served in the interim or afterwards is not evident from the extant city records. However, in October 1725, his account was paid from the city treasury.

In March 1726, he purchased a lot on the south side of the city opposite a pasture and west of the street leading to Widow Hallenbeck's. In 1730, he purchased another lot on the east side of Pearl Street.

Jacob Egmont was buried in the churchyard in May 1734. He had lived less than fifty years.
