Maria De Foreest Marselis

Maria De Foreest was born in March 1740. She was the daughter of Jesse and Neeltie Quackenbush De Foreest. She was a younger daughter in the large family of a third ward businessman. Maria lost lost her father in 1756 and her mother became head of their third ward household.

In November 1766, she married Hendrick Marselis at the Albany Dutch church. Her only child was christened there in 1771. Along with her husband, Maria was a long-time member and pewholder.

Without children of their own, this couple settled in the first ward and were Albany mainstays thru the end of the century. Hendrick was a merchant and skipper.

Hendrick Marselis died in 1802. Maria De Foreest Marselis lived until 1816. However, her name does not appear in the community record after Hendrick's death.
